Zerg Broodling Defense Confirmed
Just yesterday, Karune confirmed a recent development in Zerg defenses that was revealed from a StarCraft 2 gameplay video: A pack of Broodlings does in-fact spawn from a destroyed Spawning Pool.
In addition, Broodlings spawn from every non-defense structure upon destruction:
Yup, all Zerg buildings (not including defenses) when destroyed, will produce a handful of broodlings (which have a timed life).
Any player plowing through a Zerg base should always remember to keep moving their units around to take the least amount of damage from these broodlings.
Swarm Guardians still produce broodlings as well, when they strike a unit or building.

After reviewing the video (see below), paying special attention to the newly spawned Broodlings, we can confirm that a total of 10 Broodlings were spawned when the Spawning Pool was destroyed. We couldn’t really gauge how long their life-span was, as they were owned almost immediately (drawing siege fire onto the Mariens, which was cool).
A couple of follow-up questions:
- How long is their timed life-span?
- Does the number of Broodlings spawned depend on the size or importance of the building?
Also, it seems that some people on the Battle.net forums has termed this feature a “gimmick”, and just another addition that will end of being nerfed soon after the release of StarCraft 2. What do you think?
