A Forth Race?

There has been a lot of buzz going on around the StarCraft 2 fan community on the possibility of a forth race in the upcoming release of StarCraft 2. However, a recent interview with Frank Pearce has put those rumors to rest.

Pearce states that there will not be a forth race in the initial release of StarCraft II. But in followup, Pearce does mention the possibility of a forth race in a StarCraft 2 expansion. So with current reports, StarCraft 2 will only ship with the three original races: Terran, Zerg, and Protoss. Gamers should not be discouraged by such news, as each race will feature new units, abilities, and not to mention all the new gameplay dynamics and improvements.

“We don’t have the resources or time to add a fourth race to the launch of StarCraft II, but I’m sure in the event that we decide to do an expansion set it’s a feature that’ll come up for discussion”

“We talked about the possibility of a fourth race early on, but we felt like we had a finite amount of great ideas and wanted to make sure we focused all the cool, best ideas on the existing three races rather than diluting those ideas across four races”

No game company would ever add an additional race in an expansion… especially to ruin balance and the time it would take to do.

Not a good thing to lead on rumors.

@Miles: interesting statement, but I don’t quite understand why adding a race through an expansion pack is a bad idea. I think it is a great idea and would really refresh interest in a game, as what expansions packs are for. I don’t have any real examples, but I am sure it has been done with success before.
